"We had a family attend our screening held at a local elementary school. The child went through every station with no concerns identified. When we reviewed the intake form, it was noted that they were living in a hotel room currently, but we're optimistic that this was temporary. We used this information from the intake form to consult with them further and give them referrals to Bethlehem Inn, Neighbor Impact, and Family Resource Center. When we followed up, they had pursued the referrals we gave and were moving into an affordable housing unit. In our previous model, we would have assessed the child and told the family everything was developmentally on target. It is evident that if I child is experiencing housing insecurity and possibly trauma, that at some point it will show up in their behavior and development. This family systems approach catches events and circumstances often not assessed for in traditional comprehensive health screenings."
100% of families assessed signed HIPAA and FERPA released and had their assessment results shared with PCP or identified service provider.
We screened 457 children and families, with 242 referrals barriers and/or concerns identified.
There has been an increase in adult referrals to parenting support resources, adult counseling services, and overall richer conversations happening at the "Behavior Station" around family well-being vs. child's behavior.
We now have a clearer picture of family needs and concerns in terms of guardian mental/emotional health and need for basic services of housing, finance, and food insecurity.
We created a new procedure for collecting and reporting data so that our data is clean, scrubbed, and shared in reliable and valid ways.
