Ideal Option provides accessible evidence-based substance misuse treatment. Ideal Option’s opioid use disorder treatment program is tailored to the individual. The cadence of appointments encourages 2+ additional services within 30 days of an individual’s initial treatment. Ideal Option’s treatment protocols will also impact future state measures by decreasing binge drinking among adults, providing services for individuals with alcohol or drug dependence, and reducing mental health/substance abuse emergency department visits. Peer navigators are uniquely poised to assist newly diagnosed individuals with navigating their substance use treatment and directly impacting the outlined state measures. Ideal Option and the peer navigator will assess the needs of each patient and make referrals to other specialty behavioral health services as appropriate. Coordinated referrals and connections within the Central Oregon region are already a part of the Ideal Option workflow but will be supplemented by the proposed peer navigator. With a dedicated peer navigator, Ideal Option hopes to increase the timeliness and engagement for referrals between primary care, behavioral health, and other services.
Our program will meet people where they are in life without judgement and assist them with identifying the tools needed to improve their health. The peer navigator will collaborate with law enforcement, corrections, employers, community programs, and recovery groups to access the support they need to establish a feeling of community and connect with appropriate resources that help overcome obstacles. Many individuals in substance use disorder treatment experience discrimination, stigma, and trouble finding social connection. As someone with lived experience, peer navigators are uniquely poised to assist newly diagnosed individuals with navigating their substance use treatment. We anticipate that this harm reduction approach will impact both future state measures identified.
