Effective afterschool programs provide learning settings that bring a wide range of benefits to youth, families, and communities. Afterschool programs can support social, emotional, cognitive, and academic development, reduce risky behaviors, promote physical health, and provide a safe environment for children and youth (Youth.gov, 2021).
The Central Oregon Regional Department of Migrant Education is headquartered at the High Desert ESD. It provides a plethora of services to Migrant students and families in Deschutes, Crook, and Jefferson Counties. The High Desert ESD's Migrant Education Program is planning to expand the After-School Program to Madras and Culver in 2021-22, and to Prineville and Sisters in 2022-23.

1) Increase fruit and vegetable consumption and/or physical activity among youth
Increase the physical skills of Migrant Students enrolled in After-School Programs by hiring a part-time PE teacher, who would rotate among the After-School Program sites.
Draw awareness to the importantance of including fresh fruits and vegetables as part of daily nutrition.
