The Central Oregon Regional Department of Migrant Education is headquartered at the High Desert ESD. It provides a plethora of services to Migrant students and families in Deschutes, Crook, and Jefferson Counties. Migrant Education serves students ages 3-22. One main objective is ensuring students graduate from High School. A Preschool Specialist works with students and families to help students to be "school ready." A graduation specialist helps students in grades 6-12 be on track with credits towards graduation. A Parent Engagement Specialist helps parents navigate different educational systems and also conducts workshops to assist in gaining life skills and computer literacy. A Community Liaison provides resources and support to families to overcome daily challenges. Summer school and after-school programs help struggling Migrant students catch up on academic deficiencies. Parents are also connected to the High School Equivalency Program (HEP) to obtain their GEDs.

Upstream Prevention: The Promotion of Individual Well-Being
Future State Measures
1) Increase letter name recognition at kindergarten readiness
2) Increase third-grade reading proficiency
To improve school readiness for Migrant Education Pre-K students. Less than half of the 85 Migrant Preschoolers attend Preschool. All 85 Preschoolers are eligible for the After-School Program, and every effort will be made to help families enroll in their respective sites.
To improve the preparedness of Migrant students to meet the third grade benchmarks in reading proficiency and literacy, which include phonemic awareness, alphabetic principle, accuracy, fluency, and comprehension.
To increase the engagement of Migrant families across Central Oregon by providing their PreK-8 students opportunities for enhanced learning through after-school academic instruction and access to STEM activities. Migrant parents will simultaneously be provided with technology instruction and tutorials on how to support their children with their learning.
