The lease on a Prineville shelter ended, and in 2016, 47 men who regularly used the shelter were left without another option. The previous shelter held a maximum of 12 men, and it was not large enough for the need, especially during the winter. The community needed another shelter.
"One of our guests cleaned up in our shelter [before] looking for a job. He was hired almost immediately at a local business. He worked hard and was able to move into an apartment in town... The business owner said he was always on time and worked really hard and diligently. He said that he was one of his best workers."
Provided 4,063 shelter night stays and 8,357 meals.
Provided 3,591 showers and 380 loads of laundry.
About 50% reported finding better employment or better income.
Per scores, the overall needs of the clients decreased 18% over the course of the grant.
Hired three overnight staff and were able to shelter men ages 18 and over.
Through trusting relationships, encouraged and enhanced utilization of other community resources.
Employees indicated high satisfaction and found purpose in their work.
The program expects to receive a conditional use permit soon.
