Giardiasis Cases

County: Deschutes
Measurement Period: 2021
This indicator shows the number of incident Giardiasis cases.

Why is this important?

Giardiasis is an intestinal infection caused by the microscopic parasite, Giardia. Once infected with giardiasis, the parasite lives in the intestines and is passed in feces. Children in childcare settings and their close contacts are at highest risk, as are backpackers and campers (from drinking unfiltered, untreated water), persons drinking from shallow wells, travelers to disease-endemic areas and men who have sex with men.
